Teletherapy Available

A new and growing way to receive help, online video therapy allows for access to therapy services from a remote location, and makes therapy available when scheduling is difficult. Especially in uncertain times, like during the recent coronavirus outbreak, video therapy is a great option for an alternative to in-person therapy.

One benefit of teletherapy is the greater access to care it provides. People who have transportation difficulties or are self-conscious about visiting a psychologist in-person can receive help from the privacy of their home or office.

what do i treat using video therapy?

Video therapy is generally appropriate for teenagers and adults. Some of the conditions I can help with include:

  • Anxiety, including health anxiety, panic attacks, excessive worries, etc.

  • Depression and chronic sadness

  • Handling major life transitions

  • Improving relationships

  • Developing motivation

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, one of the most evidence-supported therapy approaches.

limitations of video therapy

Video sessions aren’t appropriate for everyone, and when you reach out to me, we’ll discuss the pros and cons before agreeing to teletherapy. Here are some limitations:

  • For some people, in-person therapy really is better. This is true with children but also with certain other mental health conditions or struggles.

  • In some cases, a higher level of therapeutic care is needed. For example, if someone is in high distress and posing a danger to themselves, etc.

  • Another more subtle challenge is finding a truly private place to have the video sessions. In a room in a house where people could potentially be overheard by family, friends, etc. will undermine our ability to discuss things confidentially and openly.

  • Though the technology is quite good and secure, there are limitations. If the internet goes out, etc., we will be unable to meet.

Please let me know if you are interested in video or in-person therapy for yourself or your teen. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to see if we could be a good fit. Please reach out at 818-523-4628. Thank you so much!
